Our curriculm includes:

Cognitive Development- Weekly themes are developed to promote cognitive development. Learning centers are designed to encourage the children to explore materials, both individually and in small groups.  Circle time is designed to encourage dialogue and questions from the children.

Language Arts- The children are exposed to many forms of literature including poems, stories, finger plays and dramatization. Listening and speaking skills are exercised daily in conversation, discussions and specific activities for following directions. Pre-reading activities include exposure to the alphabet, story sequencing and story comprehension.

Math-Counting, numeral recognition, sorting, ordering and one-to-one correspondence are some fo the math skills we emphasize in preschool. We also explore shapes, colors, basic time concepts and spatial relationships.

Science- The children explore various aspects of their environment through experimenting, collecting, comparing, observing and predicting. Good health and safety concepts are introduced also.

Gross Motor Development- The children will learn and practice basic locomotor (running, jumping, hopping, etc…) and non-locomotor (bending, stretching, pushing, pulling, etc…) activities through teacher directed games. These activities should be focused on at least once daily during inside or outside gross motor time.

Fine Motor Development- The children will build on the fine motor skills and eye-hand coordination necessary to manipulate paintbrushes, crayons, chalk, pencils and scissors. Correct pencil grip will be taught and proper cutting technique with scissors.

Social-Emotional Development- As the children grow more independent, we continue to foster appropriate social behaviors – responsibility, respect for others, cooperation, sharing and courtesy.

Self-Concept- A positive self-image is nurtured through positive reinforcement and success oriented activities. Each child is encouraged to be proud of themselves, their families and ethnic background.

Fine Arts – The children are provided with daily opportunities to manipulate art materials and express themselves in art and musical activities. Art activities will be teacher directed, but child created – there will also be time available daily for “free” art with an assortment of media available to children – pain, easels, chalk, markers, crayons, scissors, glue, colored pencils, etc…
